The new pilgrimage route of the Camino de Santiago in O Barbanza was recognised in March 2021, meaning that all people who completed this route could obtain the Compostela once the signposting of its route was completed. Although it was announced that it would be a matter of a few months, it was not until a year later that there was data on how many pilgrims obtained this credential that accredits that they had completed this traditional Jacobean route. In fact, in the 29 months since there have been records on this matter, 2,008 pilgrims have already stamped their Compostela, although the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago do Barbanza e Sar points out that there were many more who walked this route.

In this regard, Manuel Antonio Villar, archpriest of Posmarcos de Abaixo, who in August will complete one year as president of said entity, pointed out that to the 922 people who appear in the statistics for the year 2022 of the Pilgrim's Office, we should add the approximately 1,200 from an Italian diocese and from various places in Spain who participated in the European Youth Pilgrimage and who passed through the Barbanza route. This is a Camino de Santiago that became an interesting alternative to other routes that are overcrowded. In addition, it should be added that in the last quarter of 2022 there was a large pilgrimage of Barbanza residents along this Camino, who traveled it on alternate Saturdays that they had available.
