Requirements to become a member
1 - Membership of the Association shall be open to all natural persons with full capacity to act and legal entities after the agreement of their competent body, who have no outstanding debts with the association and who meet the following requirements:
- Agree with the purposes of the same
- Unemancipated minors must have the documented consent of the persons who must substitute for their capacity.
2 - To become a member of the Association, a written request must be made by the aspiring full member, sent by any means, including telematic, to the Secretary of the Association, or failing that, to any member of the Board of Directors, who will formally register the aspiring member as a full member, provided that he/she meets the requirements of the previous paragraph.
3 - The Board of Directors may refuse membership of the Association to those applicants who have previously carried out actions or maintained attitudes that seriously harm the interests defended by the Association, or who have been expelled from the Association, a decision that must be endorsed at the next General Assembly after hearing the applicant.
Loss of membership
1 - Membership can be lost:
- By their own free will in writing to the Board of Directors, without prejudice to the fulfilment of their outstanding obligations to the Association.
- For non-payment of two instalments, after being required to pay them.
- For serious or repeated breach of the corresponding duties of members that appear in these Statutes, or of the agreements of the General Assembly and the Board of Directors, or for the deliberate and intentional commission of actions that make them ineligible to continue belonging to the Association, following disciplinary proceedings with a hearing of the interested party, with the Board of Directors resolving as appropriate.
- By death of the natural person or extinction of the legal entity.
The loss of membership in the case of paragraph 1c) shall be subject to disciplinary proceedings, which shall be initiated at the proposal of the President of the Board of Directors, who shall agree, where appropriate, on its initiation and the appropriate action to be taken. This resolution shall be communicated to the interested party by the Secretary so that he/she may present allegations within 15 days and shall be resolved by the Board of Directors. The resolution of the Board of Directors may be appealed against at the first Assembly to be held.
Purposes
The main aims of the Association are
- Encouragement, promotion and defence of the traditional Jacobean pilgrimage, in all its dimensions, especially in its spiritual and humanistic components, giving priority to the religious component and spiritual contemplation.
- Help and protection for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
- The defence of the Jacobean cultural heritage, in all its areas, and that of the Pilgrim´s Routes to Santiago, as well as the Jacobean traditions of the places and, in a second level, traditions of tourist interest.
