About us
Since its creation in 2017, the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago del Barbanza y Sar "El Origen" has been promoting a new Jacobean route, known as the Camino de Santiago "A Orixe". This route traces its route through the Barbanza peninsula, marking as its main objective to identify, recover and improve the old Camino de Santiago through the region of O Barbanza, visiting the municipalities of Ribeira, A Pobra do Caramiñal, Boiro, Rianxo, Dodro and Padrón, where it would join the Camino de Santiago Portugués to finally reach the city of Santiago de Compostela.
The motivation to illuminate a new Jacobean route, "A Orixe", lies in the intention of offering pilgrims the opportunity to make a path of accompaniment of the body of the Apostle, by land, following the final journey of the Translatio of his body. beheaded from Palestine.
The tradition of moving the body from Palestine to remote Gallaecia is one of the fundamental pillars on which all the extensive Jacobean devotion is based and the main leitmotiv of our proposal, which does not compete, therefore, with other historical routes.
This Camino "A Orixe" is the fruit of the laborious work carried out for several years by our Association. This route has been formally made official by the S.A.M.I. (Holy, Apostolic and Metropolitan Church) and the Chapter of the Compostela Cathedral. It has been possible thanks to the collaboration of various researchers and the active participation of the residents of the towns through which it runs, who have contributed their knowledge and support. In addition, the historical testimonies of different illustrious travelers: Jerónimo del Hoyo, Fray Jacobo de Castro or Father Sarmiento, among others, have enriched the understanding and authenticity of the tour.
In summary, a land route, with 135 kilometers that is new, in a certain way, while accompanying the apostle on the oldest voyage recorded in the Jacobean traditions.
