Around fifty Portuguese pilgrims begin the Camino A Orixe in Corrubedo
2026-03-31 20:36:56Corrubedo once again became the starting point of an experience full of symbolism, effort, and togetherness. Around fifty pilgrims from Portugal, members of the Gasporto association, began from this town the route of the Camino A Orixe, a path that continues to gain prominence within the network of routes linked to Santiago.
The group, with a history of two decades organizing pilgrimages, chose on this occasion this variant that connects the Galician coastline with the most authentic Jacobean spirit. The choice is no coincidence: the Camino A Orixe stands out for its combination of Atlantic landscapes, cultural heritage, and lower overcrowding—factors increasingly valued by those seeking a more intimate pilgrimage experience.
Upon their arrival in Corrubedo, the walkers were welcomed by representatives of the organization behind the route. The secretary of A Orixe, Marián Treus, and the treasurer, Saturio Ferreiro, greeted the group in a warm and hospitable atmosphere, reflecting the tradition of hospitality that characterizes the Camino de Santiago routes. Ferreiro was also responsible for coordinating the logistics of the different stages, thus facilitating the journey for the Portuguese group.
This initiative highlights the growing international interest in alternative routes to the Camino Francés, especially among organized groups seeking to rediscover the original meaning of pilgrimage. In this context, the Camino A Orixe is establishing itself as a rising option, capable of attracting experienced pilgrims who value both the natural surroundings and the authenticity of the route.
The departure from Corrubedo marks the beginning of several days of walking in which participants will share not only kilometers, but also experiences, strengthening cultural ties between Galicia and Portugal through a shared tradition that transcends borders.
